On Friday 5 June, Lincoln’s Member of Parliament, Karl McCartney MP, attended the official opening of Canwick Road in Lincoln following Lincolnshire County Council's Improvement Scheme in the area.
The event included short speeches from Special Projects Officer, Mr Alan Aistrup, Executive Member for Highways, Councillor Richard Davies, as well as one from Karl himself, along with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
The Scheme has created extra capacity through the congested junctions of Canwick Road/South Park Avenue and Canwick Road/Washingborough Road as well as providing better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.
Karl McCartney MP, said: “I congratulate Cllr Richard Davies and his Team at Lincolnshire County Council for completing the Canwick Road improvement works.
“These works will now provide additional traffic lanes that will ease congestion in the South of Lincoln.
"This junction is one that, for many years, has created congestion at various times during the day for drivers who are travelling through, into and across our City.
“I am pleased that my continual campaigning over a number of years on the need for improvements at the Canwick Road/Hill and South Park junction areas has led to the previous Conservative-led Government funding a large share of these works.
“The Conservatives both at a national and Local Government level at Lincolnshire County Council are taking action to target key traffic bottlenecks both in Lincoln and around our Country, making life easier for the thousands of hardworking people who use our local roads every day.”
