The Member of Parliament for Lincoln, Karl McCartney, secures up to £110million for the North Hykeham Relief Road (Lincoln’s Southern bypass).

We have now been awarded programme entry status for the North Hykeham Relief Road scheme promoted by Lincolnshire County Council.

The Conservative-run Lincolnshire County Council has been invited to continue to develop the scheme through its planning, statutory orders and procurement stages following which they need to submit a Full Business Case (FBC). Officials at the Department for Transport will continue to work with council officers as they develop the FBC.

Subject to satisfactory approval of the FBC, the Department’s funding contribution will be a maximum of £110.045m towards the full scheme cost of £154.458m.

Commenting Karl McCartney, MP for Lincoln said: “I am thrilled that we have received such positive news from Government regarding this critical but very positive scheme. The completion of the North Hykeham relief road will reduce congestion in South Lincoln, Waddington and of course, North Hykeham. Whilst providing a full ring road around Lincoln, benefiting everyone who lives, works and visits our city.

Additionally, this will provide further opportunity by opening up land for development to both the commercial and residential sectors.

Lincoln has a major part to play in the future economic growth of the County and the East Midlands - it is fantastic to receive such an investment from our Conservative Government that I have long campaigned for.

I look forward to working with all partners to ensure this project is delivered ASAP.”
